World’s largest handmade carpet expo to be held in Tehran

More than 700 domestic companies have been scheduled to take part at the 26th edition of the world’s largest handmade carpet exhibition in Tehran.

Some 730 domestic companies are expected to take part at the 26th world’s largest handmade carpet exhibition which will be launched on August 23, head of Iran National Carpet Centre (INCC), Hamid Kargar, said.

He also noted that the exhibition, to be held on August 23-29, will be the biggest of its kind worldwide.

The expo will be held in Tehran International Permanent Fairground in an area extending over 30,000 square meters with 14 halls, while a hall will be allotted to specialized entrepreneurs, Kargar added.

Putting the number of foreign traders at 91, of which 38 are Iranian carpet merchants living abroad and 14 are Americans, he said “Foreign traders who are among the customers of hand-woven Iranian carpets, particularly those form Iran’s export targets, have been identified and invited to visit the expo.”

INCC director explained that the Seventh Top Carpet Exhibition and Festival will be held in Tehran concurrent with the exhibition in order to create new intricate carpet patterns and improve the carpet production procedure.

“Modernization and Maintaining the Market While Focusing on Originality of Iranian Carpet,” is the motto selected for this edition of the expo.

The festival will hold a competition for antique and modern carpets as well as rugs made by Iranian nomads and the top works are to be put on display in a hall.

The exhibition visitors may also have a chance to get familiar with different methods for embellishing spaces with hand-woven Iranian carpets.

A number of workshops will be held during the exhibition to familiarize the visitors with the Iranian carpet designing and production practices and a book titled ‘My Carpet – The Aesthetics of Persian Carpet’ will be unveiled.

The beautiful and precious hand-woven carpets by Iranian nomads will be offered at reasonable prices during the expo.
